Electroplating & Phosphating Industries, Water is required for four main purposes – cleaning of materials to be electroplated, raising after cleaning, plating bath preparation, and rinsing after plating. Hard water reacts & produce precipitates resulting in considerable waste of cleaning solutions. Some of the precipitates adhere to the metal & could cause pits in plating. High quality of water is a primary importance to assure satisfactory finished work. A high concentration of dissolved solids is especially detrimental in rinse water. Hard water should never be used for make up of plating bath.
